A number of these fine little ships have been built by Malmsten Boats through the years, where customers has had special requests. The boat is produced in Denmark and sold by her designer Peer Bruun in Denmark.

The Megin dinghy is basically a scaled down model of Skuldelev 1, one of the shipwrecks found in the Roskilde fjord in Denmark. The Skuldelev 1 has a pair of planks in the bottom set at an angle to the lateral line of the vessel, called Meginhufer. They create a step running parallel to the keel. In this step the water travels faster reducing the wave system around the hull. For more about the Meginhufer read "The Story".

The Megin dingy is big and safe enough for small waters cruising, but not bigger than she can easily be beached. Spacious enough for a family, yet easy to handle alone, You don't have to hang outside the rail in a breeze, you sit comfortably and protected on the floor, and it takes a lot before you need to shorten sails.

The Megin dingy is easy to maintain. The hull is of grp, and gunwale, floors and benches are made of larchwood that is treated only with linseed oil. Fittings are either galvanized or of stainless steel. Sails are dacron that is easy to dry. No need for harbours or moorings, all you need is a beach or a trolley. In the winter you put it upside down and wait for springtime. The Megin dinghy is not a big and expensive boat, but a fine little ship.
