The Osprey v.6.4 is a really hot new sportboat design.
The project is interesting from many aspects as we have
made use of all available high-tech tools. The boat was entirely designed
in the computer. The prototype was built in female moulds routed with
state of the art cad/cam machinery.
The layup is epoxy/glassfibre sandwich and was oven-cured
at 60 dgr. C. Building time from cad drawing to sailing prototype; 8
weeks.
The Osprey v.6.4 has been on trial during the summer and
has fulfilled our highest expectations. She is very fast. Though considerably
smaller, she out sails the Melges 24 downwind and has the same speed
upwind. The little rocket is carrying 31 sqm upwind and has a gennacker
on 43 sqm at a displacement of 530 kg.
No wonder she's fast, the amazing thing is that she carries
full sails upwind in a 24 knots breeze with 3 man crew and that she
stays on track and behaves very well also when you relax and don't work
to sail her flat.
